What is Vuity™? Watch the video above!
VUITY™ is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop to treat age-related Blurry Near Vision (a condition called PRESBYOPIA) in adults. In studies, VUITY™ improved near vision without compromising distance vision.
Study’s
In clinical studies where patients received one drop of VUITY™ in each eye once daily, this was measured by the proportion of patients achieving a 3-line gain or more reading a near-vision eye chart without losing more than 1 line in a distance vision eye chart at Day 30, 3 hours after dosing.
*This is illustrative only, not an actual near-vision eye chart.
How does Vuity™ work?
VUITY™ works by reducing your pupil size. It contracts muscles in the eye to help you see up close. Patients in their 40s typically start to experience difficulty seeing and reading up close, this is called “Presbyopia.” As we age the lens of your eye doesn’t give you zooming-in power anymore and requires reading glasses. This is a normal condition experienced by everyone as we age.
So, if you have good distance vision, wear reading glasses to help with reading up close. And if you have corrected distance vision, you have to have bifocal glasses and the bottom part, which will give you near vision up close. This can be very annoying for many people.
Vuity is a medication that has been used for years and is called pilocarpine. It was reformulated slightly into a dilute concentration to be used for the effect of giving increased near vision. It does so by basically constricting the pupil. It gives you a so-called pinhole effect, an enhanced depth of focus when you have a small pupil aperture or pupil opening. It was just reformulated for that purpose to address presbyopia.
Using Vuity™
One drop in each eye once daily to help improve your near vision. If more than one eye drop is being used, administer at least 5 minutes apart. Remove your contacts lenses before using VUITY™ and wait 10 minutes after dosing before reinserting your contact lenses.
